Poetry: The Window
The Window You opened a window on your world And a sudden rush of sea breeze Tossed my hair, touched my face, Brought the taste of sea salt in its’ wake. And I could hear your footsteps On the rocky path, Winding their way Precariously Round the craggy headland. Could see with your eyes The misty morning colours, Sea and sky blended from soft pastels, A peaceful palette, a gentle awakening. You smiled and asked me in. But I could only stand transfixed, Trapped in my own world On the other side Of the window. ©Bernie Delaney The Photograph Click on image to see a larger version…

Eleven October Targets
Setting Targets The teacher in me is definitely coming out now, although I feel more like a pupil with a very tough taskmaster! Having analysed my progress in September, I came up with this list of eleven October targets. Let’s see how I get on at the end of the month. A little bit of fine tuning for my creative journey. Eleven October Targets Passwords: Put all my passwords into one notebook and do it legibly! Editing: Edit posts before posting, not after., unless adding links. Publishing: Try not to hit ” Publish” when I mean to hit “Preview”( I’ve done this a couple of times ). Be focused. Photography…

Bushy Park House: Ivy Clad
Bushy Park House: Ivy Clad Thank you so much to my mother, Helga Weiss Mullins, for supplying me with this picture of Bushy Park House. The photograph of the house, covered in ivy, comes from her own personal collection. This is what the house would have looked like when she arrived from Germany in 1946 and, indeed, it retained that facade well into the 1960’s. Eventually my father , Larry, decided that the ivy had to go because it could cause structural problems with the building. Tractor Pulling My mother once told me the hilarious story about the day the ivy met its’ end. Larry, on the tractor, tugging at…

Cavewoman Reflections: September
Cavewoman Reflections: September I have found the last month to be a bit of a roller coaster of emotions. When ever I start a new project, like Cavewoman blog, I tend to throw myself into it heart and soul. Sometimes that can be a good thing and other times it can have a negative effect. With so many new ideas swirling around in your head, it is easy to become distracted or overwhelmed because you don’t have time to process them all And that is exactly where I found myself this week, feeling a little lost and in need of inspiration. This cavewoman was definitely ” having a moment “,…

Making Connections with Goodreads
Making Connections with Goodreads One of the great things about blogging is the amount of interesting websites you come across while you are doing research. My favourite moment was probably discovering the Goodreads website. Even my brother in Australia turned out to be on the site. He was the first person to make contact with me, which was brilliant. I cannot believe that I’ve spent my whole internet life unaware of this site. Well, that’s not completely true because I’ve certainly come across the name from time to time. And, on reflection, I’m sure that I’ve been linked to the site on occasion, especially when I was seeking out interesting…

Art Exhibition: Stradbally Six
Art Exhibition: The Stradbally Six Art exhibitions always inspire me, there is so much creativity on show. I had the pleasure of attending the opening night of the Stradbally Six Art Exhibition recently. The work was amazing, the artists just as much. Their humility. A willingness to talk so openly about their work. An acceptance of this madwoman high on the buzz of it all. It was a liberating experience, because their passion ignited my own. I felt like I was sharing their creative journeys with them. You know that feeling when you are in the zone. Well, I was definitely there. No Camera, No Notebook Have you ever turned…

Homeward Bound Photograph
Homeward Bound Do you ever observe people on the street, watch them walk by and wonder about them? Maybe imagine what their life is like and where they are going? When I spotted this man, walking along by the river, he just gave me the impression that he was homeward bound. I’m not sure why, it was just a feeling. And, of course, the Simon & Garfunkel song immediately jumped into my mind. There was nothing for it, I had to take the shot! And that’s how the Homeward Bound photograph began. The Photograph The photograph was taken in Westport, Co. Mayo. It’s a lovely spot to visit and it…

Gut Feelings Matter
Gut Feelings Matter Have you ever been caught in the headlights of your own life ? You were ticking along nicely and suddenly , out of nowhere, something stops you in your tracks. Something you hadn’t expected to see, something troubling. But now that it’s here, you recognise it for what it is. Your inner voice had been trying to warn you, but you have ignored it. Now you must face it, in ALL CAPS, screaming at you. I know that there were many times in life that I wished I had listened to my gut sooner, rather than over thinking things or blindly going forward. House Sale One such…

Bushy Park House Roscommon
Bushy Park House Roscommon Do you have a special connection with the house you grew up in ? Bushy Park House holds a special place in my heart. My childhood home, my sanctuary, my inspiration. So much more than just a house. This beautiful, old Georgian building was the spark that ignited my creative passion and helped shape me as a person. The building, the furniture, the antiques, each held their own attraction and mystery. Also the gardens with their unique flowers, a throw back to a different era. Plenty of places to find fun or solitude, depending on my mood. Definitely inspirational. History Bushy Park House Roscommon was built…

Ten Favourite Creativity Quotes
Quotes: Are you like me, sometimes needing inspiration and wondering where to find it? I have always loved reading interesting quotes, the type of quotes that jump out at you and make you go ” Whoa! “. Whenever I come across a particularly good one, I tend to write it down so that I’ll be able to refer to it later, perhaps when I’m in need of some inspiration. I’ve made a list of my ten favourite creativity quotes and I hope that you find something of interest among them. They range from the quirky to the deeply thought-provoking, but in each of them I find comfort and…
