    Donegal Weekend

Donegal Weekend This weekend I took a trip to Ballybofey, Co. Donegal. I was meeting up with my great friend Evelyn and her husband, Brian. Donegal is a beautiful, wild and unspoiled area of Ireland but I wasn’t there for the scenery this time. It was more of a catch-up… Time to reminisce and recharge the batteries. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and got to see a different side to Donegal than I was used to. I was amazed by the great entrepreneurial spirit of the area and the pride they have in their county. I got to see a performance of Grease by St. Columba’s Collge, attend a ball…

    Creative Writing Course Pauline Clooney

Creative Writing Course Well, it was certainly worth the wait! A couple of months ago, I listed some writing courses based in Ireland and mentioned that I was hoping to participate in one. I decided to go with the creative writing course run by Pauline Clooney at the Kildare Writing Centre.  Some of my friends had already participated in Pauline’s courses and recommended them to me. Last night was the opening session. We were all a little nervous at first, but Pauline quickly put the group at ease. Soon we were chatting like old friends. I think it’s great to have the social element to go along with the learning side as it…

    Ten November Targets

Ten November Targets I had a look back at my October review and it helped me pick ten November targets. I also threw in a few new things because I’d probably get bored if I didn’t! Maybe  I need to widen my horizons a bit and generally have more fun.  The things holding me with blogging  back are: I’m not very techie. Fear of failure can act as my prison. All of me, good and bad, gets exposed. Someone recently asked me, ” What are the two words of advice that you would give to your childhood self? “. My answer was ” Be brave. ” So, with that in mind,…

    October Review

My October Review Last month, I set myself eleven targets because I wanted to put more structure into my work. My September reflections had helped me highlight specific areas that needed work. I found that having targets really helped me focus and prioritize tasks, even if I didn’t manage to achieve them all.  None of us are robots and it’s important to be able to change tack or ignore something if it no longer fits the bill. At least, that’s my excuse! So, here is my October Review:   Paper Files Having the target of organizing a password notebook and a quotes file actually helped me in other areas as well.…

    Fruit Rainbow Poem for Children

Fruit Rainbow Red rosy apples are always in style, The orange satsumas fit in my hands. Yellow bananas are shaped like a smile And the green juicy grapes taste just grand. Blue little blueberries have a perfect name And indigo raisins are tiny and sweet, The round, violet plums are part of the game, So eat the fruit rainbow, it’s a healthy treat! ©Bernie Delaney The Poem I must miss teaching my little 4 and 5 year old children more than I realised. Fruit Rainbow is a poem written for young children. It includes all the colours of the rainbow in order and associates each one with a particular fruit.…

    Halloween Banshee Poem for Children

Halloween  Lone Banshee Silently Emerges from Behind the shadows, Watching you, stalking you, Preparing to pounce on you. Shivers of fear run down your back, You sense the threat of looming attack… Shrieks split the night, it’s no Halloween prank! The Banshee “Growing up I heard many stories of grown Irish men and women scuttling off across fields and jumping over ditches (our natural greenery such as trees and plants that separate one field from another) if they thought they heard the Irish Banshee’s lonesome, mournful keening resounding throughout their farm. ” Mary Kelly Godley   The tale of the Banshee has a special place in Irish mythology and its’ origins…

    Eleven October Targets

Setting Targets The teacher in me is definitely coming out now,  although  I feel more like a pupil with a very tough taskmaster!  Having analysed my progress in September, I came up with this list of eleven October targets. Let’s see how I get on at the end of the month. A little bit of fine tuning for my creative journey. Eleven  October Targets Passwords: Put all my passwords into one notebook and do it legibly! Editing: Edit posts before posting, not after., unless adding links. Publishing: Try not to hit ” Publish”  when I mean to hit “Preview”( I’ve done this a couple of times ). Be focused. Photography…

    Making Connections with Goodreads

Making Connections with Goodreads One of the great things about blogging is the amount of interesting websites you come across while you are doing research. My favourite moment was probably  discovering the Goodreads website.  Even my brother in Australia turned out to be on the site. He was the first person to make contact with me, which was brilliant. I cannot believe that I’ve spent my whole internet life unaware of this site.  Well, that’s not completely true because I’ve certainly come across the name from time to time. And, on reflection, I’m sure that I’ve been linked to the site on occasion, especially when I was seeking out interesting…

    Art Exhibition: Stradbally Six

Art Exhibition: The Stradbally Six Art exhibitions always inspire me, there is so much creativity on show.  I had the pleasure of attending the opening night of the Stradbally Six Art Exhibition recently. The work was amazing, the artists just as much. Their humility.  A willingness to talk so openly about their work. An  acceptance of this madwoman high on the buzz of it all. It was a liberating experience, because their passion ignited my own. I felt like I was sharing their creative journeys with them. You know that feeling when you are in the zone. Well, I was definitely there. No Camera, No Notebook Have you ever turned…
